Purpose for Travel


The purpose of this training relates specifically to the completion of objective 3: acceptable completion of laboratory blind and split sample analyses with OSU lab (meets DQOs).

Up to this point, CERES/Locustox has received training on:
1) Required quality assurance documentation and instruction on how to complete these documents;
2) Passive sampling device preparation, deployment, retrieval, extraction, and storage;
3) Sample analysis;
4) Data management/reporting;
5) Requirements for sample Quality Assurance

The objective of this training session is for OSU personnel to assist CERES/Locustox staff in becoming proficient at sample analysis and chromatographic interpretation.

The following have been selected as targets for Norman Forsberg's training session in Dakar, Senegal:

1) Extract the most recent set of UN samples which were deployed in Senegal, Benin, Mali, Niger and Guinee;
2) Generate quality control samples to evaluate sample preparation performance;
3) Demonstrate that the CERES/Locustox GC-ECD analytical platform calibrates to the study's data quality objectives;
4) Anlyze samples and provide guidance on how to perform real-time QC;
4a) Provide CERES/Locustox personnel guidance for effectively working with the GC-ECD Chemstation software;
5) Prepare batch QC reports;
6) Upload QC approved data for transport back to OSU.

Began travel from USA to Dakar, Senegal August 9, 2012
Arrived in Sengal August 10, 2012.

Plan to depart from Dakar, Sengal to USA early-mid September
